Microneedling Los Angeles
Microneedling 101: Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
Microneedling has certainly gained ground in Los Angeles as the newest and most effective skin treatment procedure for acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, loose skin, skin texture, pore size, brown spots, stretch marks, and pigment issues. But what is it really and what does it require? Read further to know more.
What is microneedling?
It is a procedure used to address and reduce signs of aging on the face (e.g. wrinkles and fine lines) as well as to improve the appearance of acne scars. It involves pricks the skin with tiny surgical steel needles to stimulate the skins natural healing abilities. The ‘micro injuries’ caused by ‘micro needles’ prompt the skin to stimulate collagen production, which is fills in fine lines, plumps the skin, and contributes to a younger look.
What should be done prior to the procedure?
Dermatologists advise patients Y to discontinue use of Retin A, Retinols, Vitamin A creams, and other topic medications for 3-5 days before microneedling treatment. Wearing sunscreen daily and using appropriate home care topical products are recommended.
What should be expected during the treatment?
The procedure must be performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of a sterile, disposable tip that allows effective treatment to hard-to-reach places (e.g. around the eyes, nose, and lips). Expect the application of topical anesthetic cream to ensure comfort throughout the procedure. Healing gels and serums are also applied during the process. The entire procedure is normally completed within 30-45 minutes depending on the required treatment and the anatomical site.
What should be done after the procedure?
It is a must not to wear any sunscreen or makeup products 12 hours after the treatment. Washing the face a few hours after treatment or before bed time using a gentle cleanser is allowed. Physical sunblock with an SPF of 25 or higher may be used 12-72 hours post-treatment. Pre-procedure regular skin care routine may be continued after 48 to 72 hours, but alcohol-based toners must not be used for at least 10-14 days. Excessive sun exposure should also be avoided during this period.
New healthy skin appears about 4 weeks after treatment and continues to generate collagen for up to 4-6 months. However, each skin is different so expect to see noticeable results after a few sessions.
